The Intel 520 SSD is well-equipped for heavy use, thanks to "Trim" support and the optimized function of the SSD toolbox, . ( Acer Aspire 3102 Battery )We strained the SSD with the IOMix profile (Iometer tool) for more than 2 hours. The average transfer rates during the test dropped from 230 MB/s to 163 MB/s. In the first hour, the performance drop to an average of 200 MB/s is not worthy of mention. However, at the end of the test, the transfer rate dropped to 100 MB/s. We tested the Intel 520 SSD in a Sandy Bridge laptop. We had to use an adapter to install the SSD in the optical drive slot, and this lead to a significant loss in performance. The drive reached a mere 64% of the performance of a SATA 3 desktop (CrystalDiskMark 3). The loss in performance is obvious as the old Samsung 470 SSD scored higher than the test model. As you can see on the video about the viewing angles, the reflecting surface is the major drawback of the provided display. So, regarding Crysis you'll still need to wait for the 8800M GTX video card, which will be provided in some notebooks at the beginning of 2008. World in Conflict BenchmarkThe strategy game World in Conflict also supports DirectX10 at high details. In practice the SLI solution is also better at Doom3, however, outperformed by the 8700M GT at FEAR. Die Anschlussanordnung hat uns weniger gefallen. Dadurch dass die meisten Ports sehr weit vorne platziert sind, geht bei vielen angeschlossenen Kabeln eine Menge Bewegungsspielraum verloren – Stichwort Maus.Natürlich enthält das Aspire 7560G auch ein Funkmodul zur drahtlosen Kommunikation. Das Broadcom-Modell beherrscht WLAN, jedoch kein Bluetooth. Samsung AA-PB6NC6B

Nervig: Acer installiert mit rund 50 Programmen und Treibern mal wieder übertrieben viel Software. Zahlreiche Bestandteile sind mehr als unnötig und verlangsamen nur den Windows-Alltag (Boot-Dauer, Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit etc.). Nach einer gepflegten Aufräumaktion wollte der 17-Zöller trotzdem nicht richtig in Fahrt kommen. Schuld daran ist primär die lahme HDD. Samsung AA-PB9NC6B

Zum Lieferumfang passt das Adjektiv „mager“. Neben einem halbwegs kompakten 90-Watt-Netzeil und einem langen 6-Zellen-Akku findet man lediglich eine Kurzanleitung und einen Garantiepass im Karton.Apropos Garantie: Acer kümmert sich nach dem Kauf zwei Jahre um eventuelle Defekte. 12 Monate gilt die Garantie sogar international. Die Tastatur ist vom Tippgefühl definitiv Geschmackssache. So empfand der Autor die 16 x 16 Millimeter großen Tasten als ziemlich wackelig. Im Ver gleich zu anderen Multimedia-Geräten wie dem Schenker XMG A501 macht das Auslöseverhalten einen recht undefinierten Eindruck. Die kleinen Pfeiltasten und das nicht gerade leise Tippgeräusch müssen wir ebenfalls bemängeln.Samsung AA-PB9NS6B

Der dedizierte Nummernblock, das durchdachte Layout und die intelligent angeordneten Fn-Funktionen retten die Tastatur vor einer schlechteren Wertung. Acer hätte lieber auf sein neues Tastaturmodell vertrauen sollen, das beispielsweise beim Aspire 5755G zum Einsatz kommt. Samsung AA-PB9NS6W

Das abgesenkte und mit 86 x 45 Millimetern ordentlich dimensionierte Touchpad gibt weniger Grund zur Kritik. Auf der positiven Seite hätten wir unter anderem die Multi-Touch-Unterstützung, welche diverse Zwei-Finger-Gesten wie Zoomen, Drehen oder Scrollen erlaubt. Dank der relativ glatten Oberfläche lässt es sich anständig über das Touchpad gleiten. Samsung AA-PL2NC9B

Im Test agierte das Touchpad weitgehend präzise, auch die Gesten wurden fast immer korrekt erkannt. Die gekennzeichnete Scrollleiste am rechten Touchpad-Rand verdient ebenfalls Lob. Einzig die billig wirkenden Maustasten sind unserer Ansicht nach verbesserungswürdig.Samsung AA-PL2NC9W

Bei der Displayauflösung hat Acer mit 1600 x 900 eine gute Wahl getroffen. Zwar wären 1920 x 1080 Bildpunkte optimaler für einen 17-Zöller und würden für mehr Arbeitsfläche sorgen, allerdings hätte die Radeon HD 6740G2 in modernen Spielen dann arg zu kämpfen. Wie beinahe alle neuen Geräte geht das Aspire 7560G mit einer LED-Hintergrundbeleuchtung und einem Seitenverhältnis von 16:9 ins Rennen. Samsung AA-PL4NC6B

Erwartungsgemäß verwendet der Hersteller nur ein billiges 08/15-Panel (LG LP173WD1-TLA4). Angefangen bei der Helligkeit, die sich mit 185 cd/m² etwas unter dem Notebook-Durchschnitt bewegt. Zumindest in Innenräumen kommen jegliche Medien halbwegs zur Geltung. Der Kontrast bleibt mit knapp 200:1 ebenfalls hinter den Möglichkeiten zurück. Gute Panels schaffen hier das Drei- bis Fünffache (siehe z. B. das Asus N75SF-V2G-TZ117V). Samsung AA-PL4NC6W

Aufgrund des hohen Schwarzwertes (~1.0 cd/m²) werden dunkle Spiel- und Videopassagen relativ gräulich dargestellt. Die Farben gewinnen auch keine Preise, es reicht nicht einmal für den sRGB-Farbraum. Die glänzende Oberfläche kann die genannten Mängel immerhin etwas kaschieren. Doch aufgepasst: Die Mehrzahl der Konkurrenten schlägt sich bei den Displaywerten kaum besser. Samsung AA-PL9NC6B

Acer Aspire 7560G vs. Asus N75SF (Gitter)Die mäßige Helligkeit rächt sich spätestens beim Outdoor-Einsatz. In Kombination mit der glänzenden Oberfläche bereitet das Notebook im Außenbereich keine Freude. Wie man auf den nachfolgenden Bildern sehen kann, treten tagsüber störende Reflexionen auf, welche einen augenschonenden Betrieb unmöglich machen. Im schlimmsten Fall ist der Bildinhalt kaum noch erkennbar. Wer sein Notebook öfters draußen benutzen will, sollte unbedingt ein Gerät mit mattem Display nehmen. Samsung AA-PL9NC6W

Auch die Blickwinkel sind keineswegs hitverdächtig. Vertikal verändert sich die Beleuchtung bereits bei min imalen Abweichungen, was ein häufiges Nachjustieren notwendig macht. Mehreren Personen ein akzeptables Bild zu garantieren, fällt wegen der dürftigen horizontalen Blickwinkel schwer. SAMSUNG N145 Akku

Im Gegensatz zu den meisten Multimedia-Geräten ist das Aspire 7560G nicht mit einer CPU von Intel, sondern mit einem Prozessor von AMD bestückt. Beim A8-3520M (Codename Llano, Sockel F1) handelt es sich um einen Ableger der Fusion-Familie, der mehrere Prozessorkerne, einen Grafikkern und weitere Hardwarebeschleuniger auf einem Die vereint. Dieses (auch APU genannte) Konzept macht aus der CPU eine Allzweckwaffe, die den Nutzer für jede Aufgabe wappnen soll. SAMSUNG NP-N145 Akku

Die vier Kerne des A8-3520M laufen normalerweise mit 1.6 GHz, SAMSUNG NT-N145 Akku können dank der Turbo-Core-Technik (Intels Turbo Boost lässt grüßen) jedoch auf bis zu 2.5 GHz übertaktet werden. Ein Pendant zu Intels Hyper-Threading-Technologie (simuliert virtuelle Kerne) fehlt der Fusion-Familie hingegen. Mehr als vier parallele Threads sind somit nicht möglich. Die Thermal Design Power gleicht mit 35 Watt derweil Intels Core i3- bzw. Core i5-Modellen (ebenfalls 32-nm-Strukturbreite). Mit einem L3-Cache kann die aktuelle Fusion-Generation nicht aufwarten, der L2-Cache des A8-3520M ist immerhin vier MByte groß. SAMSUNG NC110 Akku

Laut Spezifikationen soll das Android-Tablet über Stereo-Lautsprecher verfügen, Dell Alienware M11x R3 Akku am Gehäuse ist jedoch hierfür nur rechts eine Öffnung zu erkennen. Der Sound kommt daher stets von rechts und konnte im Test mit keiner Audio-Datei als Stereo wahrgenommen werden. Ihm fehlen zudem die Bässe - wie vielen mobilen Geräten. Es verfügt aber immerhin über eine ganz passable Lautstärke, sodass die Wiedergabe von Videos dadurch nicht getrübt wird. Ein Tablet ist eben kein Ghetto-Blaster: Erwartet man bessere Klangqualität, können am Transformer Prime über die Klinkenbuchse immer noch Aktiv-Boxen betrieben werden. DELL Alienware M14x Akku

Trotz leistungsfähigerem System-on-a-Chip (SoC), Dell 8P6X6 dem Tegra 3, ist die Leistungsaufnahme kaum höher als die der Konkurrenten, die noch mit dem Vorgänger Tegra 250 ausgestattet sind. Der letzte „iPad-Killer“, das Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v, verbraucht etwa genauso wie unser Transformer Prime im Betrieb mindestens ca. 3 Watt. Und auch im Maximalverbrauch ist das Asus Tablet mit ca. 10 Watt nur um ca. 2 Watt höher als das Galaxy Tab. Dell PT6V8

Asus spricht von einer Akkulaufzeit von bis zu 18 Stunden in Kombination von Tablet mit Dock. DELL Alienware M15x Akku Im absoluten Leerlauf mit minimaler Display-Helligkeit kann diese Zeit sogar um knapp zwei Stunden übertroffen werden. Das Transformer Prime verfügt über einen fest verbauten Lithum-Polymer-Akku mit einer Kapazität von 25 Wattstunden. Zudem ist im Tastatur-Dock ein weiterer Akku mit einer Kapazität von 22 Wh verbaut. Einmal angedockt, wird zunächst der Akku des Docks entladen, der auch gleichzeitig den Akku des Tablets lädt. Um die Vergleichbarkeit mit der Konkurrenz zu wahren, wurden folgende Laufzeittests ohne Dock durchgeführt. DELL Alienware P08G Akku

Schnell wird klar, dass die Laufzeiten je nach Display-Helligkeit stark variieren, ist es doch das Display, dass einen Großteil des Stromverbrauchs ausmacht. Vergleichbare Tablets verfügen laut unseren Labormesswerten über nur ca. zwei Drittel der maximalen Helligkeit, verglichen mit dem Transformer Prime. Dell 312-0207

Die maximale Akkulaufzeit ermittelten wir mit niedrigster, aber immer noch sehr gut lesbarer Bildschirmhelligkeit sowie einem Skript, das im Browser zwischen verschiedenen HTML-Texten wechselt. Asus spricht von einer Laufzeit von 12 Stunden - die konnten wir aber lediglich mit der minimalsten Helligkeit erreichen. Dell 312-0210
Im "Worst-Case-Szenario" lief das TF201 4 Stunden und 14 Minuten. Hierfür haben wir das Tablet mit der App „Battery Burn“ unter Volllast gesetzt und sprichwörtlich leergesaugt. Mit der Akkukapazität von 25 Wh und einer Lastspitze von 10 Watt im Verbrauch haben wir hier eine viel kürzere Laufzeit erwartet, die rein rechnerisch rund 2,5 Stunden betragen müsste. Hier lief das Tablet trotz Stress-App wohl nicht konstant unter theoretischer Spitzenlast. Dell D951T

Für den Video-Test wurde die Display-Helligkeit manuell auf ca. 15 % eingestellt, was noch für eine gute Darstellung in Innenräumen ausreicht. Bei Wiedergabe von 720p-Videos schafft das Asus Tablet im Energiesparmodus und mit deaktiviertem WLAN-Modul eine recht gute Laufzeit von etwas über 8 Stunden. Dell F681T

Für den WLAN-Laufzeit-Test wurde dieselbe Helligkeitsstufe gewählt und es lief im Standard-Browser ein Script, das im regelmäßigen Wechsel (40sek) unterschiedliche Webseiten aufrief. Hier hielt das Tablet fast zehn Stunden durch. Dell HC26Y

Betrachtet man die Laufzeit ausschließlich mit dem integrierten 25-Wh-Akku, schneidet das Asus Transformer TF201 durchschnittlich ab. Das Samsung Galaxy Tab erreicht wie das iPad 2 vergleichsweise stets um einige Stunden bessere Ergebnisse. Dennoch, diesen Tabs steht im Bedarfsfall kein Dock mit zusätzlichen 22 Wh Kapazität zur Verfügung, welches die Laufzeiten des Asus Tablets nahezu verdoppelt und so praktisch alle anderen Tablet-Kollegen deutlich überholen kann. Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF201 "Prime"Es ist schon ein beeindruckendes Stück Hardware, Dell M15X9CEXIBATLK das Asus mit dem Transformer TF201 hier kreiert hat. Nicht nur, dass das Transformer Prime überaus dünn und in Aluminium gehalten ist, auch ist es das erste Gerät mit dem neusten mobilen Quad-Core-Prozessor von Nvidia, dem Tegra 3, der mit mehr Leistung und besserem Energiemanagement eine gute Weiterentwicklung des Vorgängers ist. Die Krönung des Tablets aber ist das ausgezeichnete IPS+ Display, das in jedem Blickwinkel stabil im Bild bleibt, hell leuchtet und damit auch für den Außeneinsatz gerüstet ist wie kaum ein anderes Tablet. Lediglich das Fehlen des schmerzlich vermissten UMTS-Moduls passt nicht so recht ins sonst so perfekte Bild des Hybriden. Dell NGPHW

Das Tastatur-Dock ist eine nützliche Erweiterung für das Tablet, auch wenn es ein Android-Gerät nicht vollkommen zum Netbook werden lässt. Der zusätzliche Akku sowie die physische Tastatur sind je nach Einsatzszenario aber brauchbare Zusatzfeatures. Die Anschlüsse sind im Vergleich zum Vorgänger nicht mehr geworden, im Gegenteil, es musste sogar eine USB-Buchse dem Design weichen. Dell SQU-722

Edel wie ein Ultrabook und praktisch wie ein Netbook kann das Asus Transformer Prime TF201 dennoch ein Windows Notebook nicht ersetzen. Viel zu holprig stolpert der Browser (und all seine Alternativen auf dem Markt) noch über etwas anspruchsvollere Webseiten wie Facebook oder YouTube, und ganz zu schweigen von der mangelnden Software-Vielfalt, wie man sie etwa im Windows Bereich gewohnt ist. Zwar gibt es mittlerweile Apps für alles mögliche und selbst umfangreichere Bürosoftware ist im Market zu finden, jedoch sind diese „Progrämmchen“ noch weit vom Komfort einer Office-Suite entfernt. Schnell merkt man hier immer noch den Ursprung in einem Smartphone-Betriebsystem, sofern man ernsthaft versucht, das Gerät als PC-Ersatz zu nutzen. DELL Alienware M17x Akku
Die Hardware ist andererseits allemal mit der Leistung eines Netbooks vergleichbar, es fehlt eben nur noch das passende Betriebssystem dazu, das diese Brücke schlägt. Hier ist aber für die Zukunft mit Windows 8 eine mögliche Option in Aussicht.

Aufgrund der GPS-Problematik werten wir das TF201 in der Subkategorie Konnektivität um 10% ab, da damit alle Anwendungen die vom GPS-Ortungsdienst profitieren, etwa Navigation, stark eingeschränkt werden bzw. gänzlich hinfällig sind. DELL Alienware M17x R3 Akku

Insgesamt kann sich das Transformer TF201 dennoch eine sehr gute Wertung sichern, Dell 0C852J zu souverän passiert es die übrigen Tests. Im Vergleich zum iPad 2 kann das Android-Tablet in Sachen Design und Verarbeitungsqualität mit dem Apple-Konkurrenten durchaus mithalten - das hochauflösendere Display des Transformer Prime ist mit der unerreichten Helligkeit sogar deutlich besser. Dennoch sind einige bessere Benchmark-Ergebnisse des iPads Indizien für eine hin und wieder immer noch ebenbürtige, wenn nicht sogar bessere Leistung. Dell 0F310J

Es wurden bereits zahlreiche weitere Android-Geräte mit dem Tegra-3-Chip angekündigt und es dauert wohl auch nicht mehr lange, bis sich das Tablet mit ähnlich ausgestatteten Konkurrenten messen muss. Zumindest bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt setzt sich das Asus Transformer Prime TF201 an die Spitze unserer Tablet-Charts. Dell 312-0944 C852J

Zunächst der viel günstigere Vorgänger, das Asus Eee Pad Transformer, das Samstung Galaxy Tab 10.1v als attraktives Tablet mit Vorgänger-Chip Tegra 250, natürlich das iPad 2 als aktuellste Version des Genre-Begründers, sowie das Asus Eee Pad Slider als einen weiteren Exoten mit integrierter Tastatur. Eine Woche CES. Nachdem wir bereits den ausführlichen Test der deutschen Core i5 Version im Dezember veröffentlicht haben, konnten wir nun dank Intel auch die kleinere Core i3 Version testen. Neben zahlreichen Benchmarks, musste sich das günstige Ultrabook auch im Praxiseinsatz auf der CES 2012 behaupten. Dell H134J

Das Toshiba Portégé Z830-10N ist die kleine Einstiegsversion des Toshiba Ultrabooks mit Core i3 ULV Prozessor und 128 GB SSD aus Großbritannien. In Deutschland sind derzeit nur stärkere Core i5 Versionen wie das Toshiba Satellite Z830-10J (Test hier) erhältlich. Bis auf CPU und SSD unterscheiden sich die Versionen jedoch nicht. Daher gehen wir in diesem Test hauptsächlich auf die Prozessorleistung und unsere Erfahrungen im täglichen Einsatz ein. DELL Alienware M18x Akku

Kratzer im Lack auf der UnterseiteDas sehr flache Gehäuse des Ultrabooks soll dank Magnesium-Legierung und Wabenstruktur besonders widerstandsfähig sein. Dell Inspiron 1425 Akku Dem Mainbody gelingt dies auch recht gut. Der sehr dünne Displaydeckel verwindet sich jedoch sehr leicht. Selbst beim Aufklappen des Bildschirms hat man eher den Eindruck ein Blatt Papier wegzuklappen. Auch das zentrale Displayscharnier trägt hier zum filigranen Eindruck bei. In Verbindung mit dem leicht verwindbaren Displaydeckel wackelt das ganze Display beim Tippen auf dem Schoß - nervig.Weiters fielen uns noch die relativ scharfen Gehäuseecken in der täglichen Benutzung etwas negativ auf. Positiv gefällt die geringe Bauhöhe und das geringe Gewicht. Das Subnotebook fällt kaum auf in der Tasche und man nimmt es dadurch immer gerne mit. Die verwendeten Materialien hinterlassen einen guten Eindruck. Mit den Aluminiumoberflächen eines MacBook Air oder Asus ZenBook können sie jedoch nicht mithalten. Das Design ist unauffällig und für den Businesseinsatz gut geeignet. Dell 90NITLILD4SU1

Nach dem harten Messealtag konnten wir auch trotz der sorgsamen Behandlung (Schutzhülle, meist im gepolsterten Laptopfach des Rucksacks) einen deutlich sichtbaren Kratzer auf der Unterseite wahrnehmen. Das Magnesium war zwar nicht beschädigt, aber anscheinend hat der Klarlack etwas abbekommen. Dell 906C5040F

Ebenso wie der Prozessor ist die Grafikkarte leistungsstärker als für diesen Formfaktor üblich. Auf ihr sollten die meisten oder sogar alle aktuellen Spiele spielbar sein, wenngleich die Einstellungen in anspruchsvollen Titeln beträchtlich verringert werden müssen.( Akku Fujitsu LifeBook P2046 )

Wie bereits erwähnt, kann die eigenständige GPU bei Bedarf auch von der integrierten, Intel HD Graphics 3000 abgelöst werden, um den Stromverbrauch einzuschränken. Dies kann automatisch (ähnlich der Optimus Technolgie) oder manuell erfolgen. Wird eine manuelle Steuerung benötigt, oder treten Kompatibilitätsprobleme auf, kann dies im BIOS des Laptops entsprechend konfiguriert werden. Die Umschaltlösung von AMD ist zwar nicht ganz so ausgereift wie Optimus, doch sie funktioniert.( Akku Fujitsu LifeBook P2110 )

Der Windows Experience Index ist ein Tool für die Bewertung der PC-Leistung, doch erlaubt er eine grobe Abschätzung wie ausgewogen die einzelnen Komponenten sind. Das Envy 14 Testmodell kann den Maximalwert von 5.9 für mechanische Festplatten nicht überschreiten. Nur mit SSDs kann ein höherer Wert erreicht werden. Die übrigen Teilergebnisse sind offenbar ziemlich gut, doch die Bewertung ist auch hier ungenau. Die HD 6630M wird z.B. fälschlicherweise schneller als die HD 6770M eingestuft.( Akku Fujitsu LifeBook P2120 )

Zwar kann die Radeon HD 6630M bezüglich Grafikleistung nicht mit den leistungsstärkeren Grafikkarten der HD 6600M Serie, wie der HD 6770M im HP Pavilion dv7-6b02eg mithalten, doch ist sie dennoch deutlich schneller als der Durchschnitt in diesem kleinen Formfaktor. Verglichen mit Nvidias Produktpalette liegt sie leistungsmäßig zwischen GeForce GT 520M und GT 540M.( Akku FUJITSU LifeBook N6400 )

Futuremark's 3DMark Benchmark Reihe ist teilweise stark von der CPU abhängig. Dies kann man z.B. am Dell Vostro 3550 sehen, welches mit 6630M aber mit einer Zwei-Kern-CPU ausgestattet ist. Die Benchmark-Ergebnisse sind speziell im 3DMark Vantage besser als die korrespondierenden Werte des Envy 14 mit HD 5650.( Akku FUJITSU LifeBook N6410 )

HP hat das Envy 14 mit einer schnellen 7200 U/min Festplatte mit 750 GB Kapazität ausgestattet. Etwas mehr als 20 GB sind für eine Recovery-Partition reserviert. Dies ist eine gute Sicherheitsmaßnahme und in Anbetracht der Laufwerkskapazität ziemlich unbedeutend. Wer jedoch die Festplatte mit einer SSD ersetzten möchte, wird wahrscheinlich auf die Recovery-Partition verzichten wollen.( Akku FUJITSU LifeBook N6420 )

Bei der Festplatte handelt es sich um eine Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS. Dank einer Umdrehungsgeschwindigkeit von 7200 U/min ist sie, verglichen mit 5400 U/min Modellen, die in preisgünstigen Laptops üblich sind, etwas schneller. Laut HDTune beträgt die durchschnittliche Datentransferrate für mechanische Laufwerke gute 94.5 MB/s. Der Maximalwert beläuft sich auf 120.2 MB/s. Im Vergleich erreichen Solid-State-Drives Spitzenwerte von über 500 MB/s, sind aber deutlich teurer.( Akku FUJITSU LifeBook N6460 )

Während unseres Stresstests, bei welchem Furmark und wPrime gleichzeitig ausgeführt werden, trat kein Throttling auf. Da bei dieser extremen Last früh auf die höchste Lüfterstufe geschalten wird, bleiben die CPU Temperaturen konstant bei ungefähr 80 Grad Celsius. Allerdings kann der Turbo Mode das Maximum von 2.9 GHz nicht erreichen, sondern pendelt sich rund um maximal 2.8 GHz ein.( Akku FUJITSU LifeBook N6470 )

Insgesamt gibt es wenige Laptops dieser Größen- und Gewichtsklasse, die mit der CPU-Leistung des Envy 14 mithalten können. Vierkern-Prozessoren sind üblicherweise 15-Zoll oder größeren Laptops wie dem Acer Aspire 5755G vorbehalten, die einen vergleichbaren PCMark Vantage Score erreichen. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist die verbaute Mittelklasse Grafikkarte, die selbst für Gelegenheitsspieler ausreichen sollte. Gleichzeitig wurde bei der Akkulaufzeit kein Kompromiss eingegangen und eine umschaltbare Grafiklösung implementiert.( Akku FUJITSU LifeBook C1320 )

Im Vergleich zu anderen kleinen Laptops mit Solid State Drives leiden die PCMark Ergebnisse des Envy 14 unter der konventionellen Festplatte. With the ProBook 4330s, HP presents an attractively priced subnotebook for business customers or those who prefer having a matt screen and metal case in their notebook. The subnotebook excels in workmanship. Unfortunately, cutbacks are made on the screen in low-end notebooks - and the ProBook 4330s is no exception. While the brightness is just still acceptable, the black value and color reproduction isn't impressive and the contrast can only be called poor. The notebook isn't a performance miracle due to the Celeron processor, but the notebook is nevertheless very well suitable for Office tasks. The use in Office life is likely one of the notebook's strengths. The performance is absolutely acceptable for editing documents, making presentations and doing Internet research. Run notebook, run! The motto: Small and mobile is no longer only to apply to ultrabooks. Asus promises that the U56E is a high performance, enduring runner that will stir up the office field properly. Is this enough to justify a purchase price of over €700?( Acer UM09H41 Charger )

10 hours of battery life - then it can only be a netbook, or? Not at all! The Asus U56E is a basic office notebook that wants to set up new mobility records. Ultra thin, light and enduring - these adjectives are to now also overpower the 15.6 inch category.( Acer BT.00803.005 Charger )

The configuration doesn't conceal many surprises: A Core i5-2430M, 4 gigabytes of RAM and a 500 gigabyte hard disk are merely good average fare. The purchase price of about €730 is all the more assertive. Equally equipped contenders, such as the Samsung E3520, are available for starting at €500. Thus, the U56E is hardly cheaper than Acer's Aspire S3 ultrabook, although it addresses a slightly different consumer group, being a 13.3 inch device.( Acer BT.3506.001 Charger )

And anyway, it is difficult to find a directly comparable model that corresponds to the Asus candidate in both size and mobility. One notebook might be the Toshiba Satellite R850. However, the configuration we tested was from a much higher quality range and had a dedicated AMD graphics card. Has Asus only focused on mobility? Or has it kept the classic office traits, such as input device quality, in mind? We want to examine this in detail in the following review. This promise is at least partly true when looking at the outsides. Apart from the brushed aluminum display lid and a thin plate underneath the keyboard, many surfaces are made of simple plastic. The colors range from a silver-gray metallic paint up to a matt black wrist rest that has a light rubber coating. Thus, the U56E makes a rather conservative, but overall quality impression. The specification about the lid's thickness of one inch, so approximately 2.5 centimeters, is also only true to an extent. The voluminous 74 Wh battery juts out of the chassis' bottom and lifts the notebook at the back by more than a centimeter. At first glance, that and a weight of approximately 2.5 kilograms restrict the high mobility noticeably. ( Acer LC.BTP04.001 Charger )

The stability and manufacturing quality are at an average level. ( Acer BT.T5003.001 Charger ) The case can easily be deformed particularly over the DVD drive and under the keyboard. A quiet cracking noise can also be heard then. The hinges are pulled so tight that both hands are needed for opening the display. However, vibrations let it teeter for a few seconds. Although the torsional stiffness is superior to that of many contenders, the lid should be opened in the center and with well dosed force. The slightest touch on the display bezel with a finger is enough to manipulate the liquid crystals of the bordering screen and to distort its contents. ( Acer BT.T5003.002 Charger )

The Samsung E3520, reviewed only a few weeks ago, can easily compete with the U56E despite its significantly lower price. Asus earns kudos for the attempt to keep the notebook's height as low as possible. That could only be improved by a more intense, but also more expensive, use of equally light and stable metals, such as aluminum or magnesium. Apple's MacBook range, with the unibody cases milled out of one block of aluminum, has been a paragon for years in this field. ( Acer BT.T5005.001 Charger )

For simple applications the Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics unit integrated into the processor is used, something that makes itself noticeable with a relatively long battery life. For games and other demanding applications, the dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 630M graphics card with 2 GBytes of memory is available. Even the 4 GBytes of RAM should still be enough for demanding users these days.( Acer UM09E31 battery,charger )

Acer has included the same processor and dedicated graphics card in the TravelMate 5760G-2454G50Mnsk, which we also reviewed recently. Due to this, we aren't only interested in finding out how the EasyNote TS13 compares to its predecessor, but also to what extent it is better than its direct competitor.( Acer UM09E36 battery,charger )

At first glance the bright red design of the EasyNote stands out: The palm resting area, as well as the shiny display lid, are covered in red with a decent pattern. As its predecessor, the EasyNote TS11-HR-158GE, the TS13 is housed in the same case as the Acer Aspire 5741G-334G50Mn. The main difference is the shiny lid material, which is unfortunately susceptible to smudges and fingerprints.( Acer UM09E70 battery,charger )

As with the Acer, the lower edges of the display lid are missing the rubber dampers for which sockets are available. The missing dampers don't lead to any scratching though, contrary to the results determined during the Acer test. The Packard Bell model is fitted with four rubber dampers at the top of the display, one on either side, and two at the bottom, all of which should protect the screen sufficiently when closing it.( Acer UM09E71 battery,charger )

With the exception of the silver logo, the whole notebook is constructed of plastic materials, which have generally been well manufactured, and also make a relatively stable impression. Thus, the base unit hardly warps with pressure applied, and the internal parts are therefore sufficiently protected - not least because of the stable base plate. The display hinges hold the display firmly in all positions, and allow it to be opened to up to about 160 degrees. Underneath a screwed down panel on the bottom surface, is the internal hard drive, as well as the RAM and the WLAN module. ( Acer 3UR18650Y-2-QC261 battery,charger ) Along with a precision screwdriver, you will also need a bit of skill to open the panel without damaging it: This is due to the panel being relatively firmly attached by a series of hooks on its sides. If wanting to remove the battery, a little help will also be required in this case - a sharp utensil is needed for pushing it out. With frequent use this is likely to lead to signs of wear. The fact that this can also be possible without a screwdriver, was proved by us during the review of the HP Probook 4535s. The interfaces are the same as those available on the predecessor EasyNote TS11-HR-040UK. Next to the air vent are also the Gigabit Ethernet port, and the power input. On the right side, the Kensington Lock slot, as well as the DVD burner, and another two USB 2.0 ports can be found. The latter of these are relatively close together, which is why it could lead to difficulties attaching two USB connectors at the same time if these are a bit wider than usual. Packard Bell has been stingy when it comes to the (hardware) accessories. This shouldn't be satisfactory for anyone other than notebook beginners. What is abundant in contrast, is the software included by Packard Bell for the EasyNote TS13. The highlight is the pre-installed full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. Software, that should more than suffice for image editing by a home user - even if the current version of the program is version 10. With Nero Suite, there is also a burning program available, and Microsoft Office Starter provides free, although with advertising banners, basic text processing and spreadsheet applications. An all-round and free solution without advertising could also be provided by Office Suite or LibreOffice, which could be installed retrospectively if necessary.( Acer 3UR18650F-3-QC228 battery,charger )

The obligatory 1.3 Megapixel webcam is also integrated into the display frame. In this case an LED is missing for indicating whether the webcam is active. On the software side, there is also no function such as a tray icon available, which signals the activity, or with which the module can be deactivated. For example when using Skype, we would recommend deactivating the automatic transmission of the video images in the settings, in order to prevent accidental surprises.( Acer BT.00903.005 battery,charger )

Except for hard wired Gigabit Ethernet, there is also a WLAN module available, which supports the current standards 802.11b/g/n, and should thus at least theoretically provide a bandwidth of up to 600 Mbit/s wirelessly. There may be enough space for a UMTS module in the case, but there is unfortunately no socket available, something that is nevertheless not uncommon with notebooks in this class. What would be common is Bluetooth, something that we are missing with the EasyNote TS13. In this case an external solution via USB would also be an option.( Acer LC.BTP01.015 battery,charger )

Packard Bell provides a standard 12 months warranty with mail-in or carry-in service, which means, ( Acer LC.BTP01.016 battery,charger ) that customers have to return the device or take it to a licensed retailer in case of a problem. This constitutes the absolute minimum as far as notebook warranties go - other manufacturers often provide a 24 months warranty with pickup & return service for notebooks in this class, in which case the notebook is collected and returned. At least Packard Bell provides a warranty extension of up to 3 years with pickup & return service for 69 Euros, which also includes all hardware faults.( Acer 3UR18650Y-3-QC262 battery,charger )

As with its predecessor, the EasyNote TS11-HR040UK, the TS13 also comes with a keyboard using a chiclet design. With the exception of the top and bottom rows, the keys have the usual 15 x 15 millimeter dimensions, and a pleasant 3 millimeter gap between each other, which combine to allow for fast typing. The keys in the bottom row are about 18 millimeters high, while the function keys on the top row are only about 9 millimeters high, something that doesn't lead to a compromised typing feeling though.( Acer CGR-B/6H5 battery,charger )

Users that are not used to key combinations with the function keys, ( Acer LC.BTP00.001 battery,charger ) will be much more annoyed by the hotkey functions that are active as standard, whereby F1 to F12 have to be used together with the Fn key. In the BIOS you can restore the usual functionality by changing its settings. Along with the usual hotkey functions, such as switching between monitors, or switching the WLAN on or off, there are also some exotic options available: Using the F1 key for example, the product manual can be opened as a PDF - reserving a single key for this seems a little exaggerated in this case; a simple shortcut on the desktop would also have sufficed.( Acer LC.BTP00.002 battery,charger )

At the top right of the notebook is the so called Social-Media button, which opens a Facebook messenger that initially reminds of ICQ, and also provides access to YouTube, Flickr, and Twitter. Also above the numeric keypad are the buttons for the volume control, which are easy to operate, and provide a useful addition to the hotkey portfolio. More or less all the hotkeys provide an indication on the display when used, just unfortunately not the one for setting the brightness of the display. Asus generally likes to give its devices hardware-buttons, which makes the activation of energy-related functions or wireless modules easier. This is not so on the U30JC, which lends the work surface a cleaner look. Even the power key is tucked away under the right display hinge. There is, in fact, a hardware button, which serves to activate both wireless modules. It is located awkwardly and almost invisible on the front left side. The switch is difficult to move and gives the impression that it was incorporated into the chassis late in the development cycle. In der aktuellen Version Cinebench R11.5 erreichte das Notebook 2.57 Punkte, womit die Performance auf einem Niveau mit den Konkurrenten von HP oder Asus liegt. Der maximale Turbo-Boost-Takt von 2,9 GHz für einen Kern beziehungsweise 2,7 GHz bei Vollauslastung wird somit umfassend ausgeschöpft, wie auch der Turbo Boost Monitor von Intel bestätigt. Mit den ermittelten Leistungswerten qualifiziert sich der Core i5-2410M für alle aktuellen Office-Anwendungen. Auch anspruchsvolle Bild- oder Videobearbeitung ist möglich, doch bieten hier Quad-Core-Prozessoren noch deutlich größere Reserven. Das aktuelle Einstiegsmodell i7-2670QM erreicht bei Auslastung aller 4 Kerne fast die doppelte Leistung des i5-2410M. Im HD-Tune-Benchmark konnten wir eine durchschnittliche Transferrate von 69,9 MB/s ermitteln, womit sich der Datenträger im Mittelfeld aktueller Notebook-Festplatten bewegt. Durch den identischen Prozessor liegt die Systemleistung des E3520 auf ähnlicher Höhe wie bei den Kandidaten von MSI, HP oder Toshiba. Im PCMark Vantage konnten wir einen Score von 6075 Punkten ermitteln, während ein Durchlauf des aktuellen PCMark 7 1783 Punkte ergab. We wish the X120e had a brighter screen with levels above 200cd/m2, but on the other hand the display appears to have improved brightness distribution and contrast levels. These could be considered fair tradeoffs for the overall lower brightness,( dell Latitude D620 Battery ) but will mean that the brightness level should definitely be turned up for comfortable outdoor viewing. Subjectively, the screen produces great colors and the image quality is sharp.

The color spectrum coverage of the ( Battery Acer Aspire 4710 ) netbook is unacceptable for professional use due to its extremely limited color space representation when compared to AdobeRGB and sRGB. Still, professional image editors would not want to work with a sub 12-inch display. Compared to the 10.1-inch Samsung NF310 netbook,( Acer Aspire One battery ) the X120e is about the same in terms of color representation,( Vostro 1320 Battery ) but still doesn’t match the performance of larger and more expensive laptop screens such as the 15.5-inch Sony Vaio VPC-EB3Z1E.

Built-in webcamThe matte display diffuses most reflections as expected, ( dell Inspiron 1720 Battery ) so outdoor usage in general is not as troublesome. An included 0.3MP webcam is positioned above the screen and works ( Dell inspiron 1520 battery ) better than average under low-light conditions.

Viewing angle stability is similar to that of the X100e,( Dell Inspiron 1420 battery ) which is notebook-typical. Horizontal viewing angles are good, while vertical viewing angles are much less acceptable, especially if viewing from below.( Dell Inspiron 1525 battery ) Colors will almost immediately shift when watching videos at slight vertical angles.

DPC Latency CheckerThe heart of the ThinkPad X120e is the new AMD Fusion E-350 APU.( battery vostro 1510 ) This dual-core processor is a definite upgrade from the single-core Athlon Neo MV40 and is capable of 1080p video playback while promising a low TDP of only 18 watts.( Sony VGP-BPS13/B battery ) Here, the processor runs at a speed of 1.6GHz with 1024KB of L2 cache.

The Fusion processor also integrates a Radeon 6310 GPU,( VGP-BPS13B/B battery ) which offers 80 unified shaders and a performance level far surpassing that of the integrated Radeon HD 3200 in the X100e. GPU-Z shows the Radeon 6310 GPU underclocked at 200MHz (core) and 533MHz (memory) by default with DirectX 11 support. The core clock can reach as high as 492.3MHz when under load, however, according to HWiNFO. ( battery dell Vostro 1520 ) As with many integrated graphics solutions, there is no dedicated VRAM, so the Radeon GPU will instead borrow from the system RAM as needed.

Two gigabytes of PC3-10700 DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz is provided in a single module. The AMD A50M mainboard can support 2 modules maximum and is easily accessible by loosening the three screws from the underside of the X120e. Disabling this tool will remove the latency spikes, but a BIOS and Power Management driver upgrade will solve this problem as well. If the problem is ignored, the user may experience audio stuttering issues when listening to audio streams.

In the CPU-oriented benchmarks, ( battery VGP-BPS9/B ) the Fusion E-350 APU shows a massive improvement over the Athlon Neo MV-40 CPU of the X100e. The X120e achieves a score of 9.88 GIPS in Dhrystone and 7.5 GFLOPS in the Whetstone benchmark. Additionally, the netbook is able to finish WPrime 32m in about 72.1 seconds and WPrime 1024m in 2257 seconds.( Aspire 4520 battery ) SuperPi can be competed in 112 seconds and 2458 seconds for 1 million and 32 million digits, respectively.
