Nokia receives patents for 2 tablet designs

Rumored Nokia tablets aren’t anything new, although the most recent suggestions do provide some sketches to look at. According to a couple of patents granted by the United States Patent VGP-BPS13/S and Trademark Office (USPTO) today, 2 different Nokia tablet designs have been approved. Unfortunately, the application for these designs was around a year ago (May 28th 2010) and they might not ever amount to much; especially after Nokia let go of its Meego OS.

The first tablet resembles the Nokia N8 a lot VGP-BPS22 and actually appears to be an oversized version of it. If the sketch is to be believed, the tablet would have been roughly the thickness of a 3.5mm headphone jack and would have come with what appears to be an SD card slot. As for the 2nd sketch, it’s a bit more curvaceous than the first and looks like it has a wider bezel as well. Both designs seem to be in the 9 to 10 inch mold VGP-BPS22A and don’t appear to have more than one physical button.

Unfortunately, given the application date on these tablet designs it looks like they never became more than simple sketches. In addition, Slashgear.com’s sources indicate that one of the tablets was proposed to certain European carriers who were “unimpressed” and weren’t interested in the device. While we definitely would have looked forward to seeing MeeGo OS running on a tablet, it appears that opportunity has come VGP-BPS21 and gone and we’ll have to wait and see if Nokia decides to release any Windows Phone 7 tablets in the future.

Apple postpones iPad 2 launch in Japan

The recent mega-tsunami that struck Northeastern Japan last week continues to disrupt many technology companies VGP-BPS21A and their manufacturing chain. Now, new releases on the archipelago island may be delayed as well, including Apple’s iPad 2.

“We are delaying the launch of the iPad 2 in Japan while the country Akku thinkpad T410 and our teams focus of recovering from the recent disaster” said Apple spokesperson Natalie Kerris. While the disaster is expected to cause worldwide supply issues for certain manufacturers, Kerris pointed out that the decision to delay the iPad 2 launch was not due to component shortages. Analysts, however, say that Apple could eventually be having supply issues with flash memory if the crisis continues.

For iTunes users wanting to help families affected by the tsunami, Apple has added an option in the iTunes Store to accept donations ranging from $5 up to $200. 100% of all collected funds will go to the American Red Cross, Akku thinkpad T61P who in turn will provide aid to disaster victims.

About 5 percent of Apple’s revenue last quarter Akku thinkpad R61E was from sales in Japan, according to Reuters. Revenue from the country rose to $1.4 billion during this period.

The original Japanese launch date of the iPad 2 was slated for March 25th, but Apple has yet to announce the revised launch date for the region. Launch delays elsewhere were not mentioned Akku thinkpad T61 and are still on schedule.

New technology diagnoses cancer via smartphone

Traditional testing for cancer requires large samples of tissue, days of anxious waiting and the risk that the tissue will decay on the way to the lab. During the past decade, however, the Center of Systems Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital has been working on a device that requires only a small sample of potentially cancerous cells, analyzes them right there in the doctor's office Akku thinkpad R61I and displays the results on a smartphone within an hour. A doctor then reads the results and diagnoses the patient on the spot.

How does this work? A small, approximately 4,000-cell sample is taken using a minimally invasive fine needle. Then the small, coffee-mug sized micro-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) device uses technology similar to that of an MRI to test the sample for cancer marker proteins. In clinical trials at Massachusetts General Hospital, this method had an accuracy rate of 96% in diagnosing various types of cancer. Within an hour, the micro-NMR is finished Akku thinkpad R60E and can be hooked up to a smartphone to transfer the data it acquired.

The benefits: As opposed to conventional pathology which requires an invasive biopsy and large tissue sample, the micro-NMR requires no risky surgery Akku thinkpad T60P and only a small sampling of cells taken using a needle. Typically, after the biopsy, the sample is usually transported to an outside lab to be tested. In the meantime, the sample decays and, therefore, the resulting data is rendered less accurate—not to mention the horrible anxiety the patient has to face waiting several days for the results. But since the micro-NMR only takes an hour to test the sample, which can be analyzed immediately on a smartphone, there's minimal cell decay Akku thinkpad T60 and minimal nail-biting anxiety involved.

Smartphones continue to make their way into the health care sector, facilitating Akku thinkpad R60 and improving every aspect of it. The micro-NMR is a great example of how smartphones are not only making medicine more efficient but also more accurate.
